The UK government is facing criticism over delays to the publication of the Draft Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill, which had been promised before Christmas.

Campaigners allege that Number 10 Downing Street is deliberately stalling the bill’s release to appease major freehold interests and their lobbyists, often referred to as “Big Freehold.” According to critics, the delay undermines long-standing commitments to reform the leasehold system and improve protections for homeowners.

They also warn the public not to be misled by claims that reform would harm pension funds or deter global investors, arguing that such assertions form part of a wider disinformation campaign designed to protect vested interests.

Speaking on Times Radio, campaign representatives challenged these narratives directly, calling for greater transparency from the government and urging ministers to honour their promise to bring forward the draft legislation without further delay.
